Anaerobic digestion of Ulva sp 3. liquefaction juices extraction by pressing and a technico-economic budget ArchiMer
Morand, Berenice; Briand, X; Charlier, R.
In many countries, the algae of "green tides" are harvested in the fight against pollution. Ulva often represents the main component of the tide, and intensive research has been conducted on the possibility to use the algae as a methanisation substrate. However, methanisation is hampered by various practical obstacles, which requires a compromise between productivity and biological yield. The process described here calls upon a pre-digestion phase of Ulva which, besides the economy of time and volume of the digestion, makes it possible to obtain a biogas of good quality. The methanisation substrate is the hydrolysis juice collected by draining, followed by pressing. The cake resulting from the pressing process can be used as organic enriching or...

Etudes des bases génétiques et de la varibailité des caractères physiologiques impliqués dans la croissance chez l'huître creuse Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer
Collet, Bertrand; Boudry, Pierre; Bougrier, Serge; Heurtebise, Serge; Phelipot, Pascal; Ledu, Christophe; Morand, Berenice; Heral, Maurice; Gerard, Andre.
A European programme (GENEPHYS) was launched in 1996 to study the genetic basis and variability of physiological characters involved in growth in Crassostrea gigas. This research programme was a prerequisite for any genetic selection programme on physiological functions. Research groups from Ireland, England, Greece and France are involved in this project and participate in genetic analyses (allozymes and microsatellites) and physiological analyses (ecophysiology, enzymology, stress proteins). Ifremer at La Tremblade was responsible for producing the biological material while Ifremer-CREMA (human-influenced marine ecosystems research centre) was responsible for carrying out non-destructive physiological analyses.

Relationship between pre- and post-metamorphic growth in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg) ArchiMer
Collet, Bertrand; Boudry, Pierre; Thebault, Anne; Heurtebise, Serge; Morand, Berenice; Gerard, Andre.
Twenty male and 20 female parental oysters, originating from four sites located along the French Atlantic coast, were crossed together. The 400 crosses were performed separately and then pooled to give a batch of larvae with a large genetic base. Successive sieving after 17 days at 23°C enabled the separation of the largest larvae from the batch. These larvae (i.e., sieving groups) were left to metamorphose and fix onto flat PVC collectors changed daily. Four groups of larvae representing distinctly different growth rates were successively separated during the attachment and metamorphosis of the whole population. This lasted 12 days, from the 17th day to the 29th after fertilisation. A part of each sieving group was settled separately as replicates on...
